Contractors Development Program Overview

Contractors Development

We’re offering the Contractor Development Program.  This series has been developed and curated by MSHDA Contractor Assistance Program instructors and community partners to educate and provide resources for new contractors at each step in the process of getting their construction company up and running.

  Contractors will leave the series empowered to use the skills to grow their business, with the necessary network, connections to contract opportunities, and experience to make it on their own.

The Contractor Development Series will be delivered in a hybrid model with most education remote, providing students with the opportunity to learn directly from home, while complying with state regulations and providing a safe learning environment.

To participate you must be licensed as a Michigan Residential Builder, Mechanical Contractor, Electrician, Plumber or intend to work under a Commercial Contractor.

Contractors will learn how to leverage their current network, as well as city, county, state, and local resources to develop and broaden their skill set.  Through a carefully curated curriculum, students will learn:

  1. How to find projects to bid on;

  2. How to get on bid lists;

  3. Creating and utilizing a BidSync account;

  4. An overview of City of Detroit, Wayne County, State of Michigan, federal programs and other local units of government.

  5. Information on getting their small business certified; and more.

  6. Panel will include Developers, Government Buyers, and Large Contractor
